In Which I Attempt Embroidery

I think I'm getting bored with knitting. GASP! Actually, I'm just wanting to branch out and try different things. I've been doing only one thing for so long and I was thinking that it really would be good if I learned quilting and embroidery and such.

So Saturday I took a trip to the craft store and bought me a hoop, needles and embroidery thread. I tried looking up instructions and how to do things but I'm really just one of those "Jump in and do it" kinda girls, so that's what I did. I have done this once when I was really young, but I've slept since then so it was really just learning it like new.

I found this sampler on Sew Mama Sew! and figured I would start with it, having no other reason than I thought it was cute.

I found that I really like embroidering. It's still using thread and fiber, but in a completely different way. I think I could really get into this.

Happy Monday,
Meg

I always liked embroidery because it feels like sewing backwards. I did a lot of counted cross stitch in my youth. Are you doing that, too?

The letters are technically cross stitch, I guess. The rest of it I'm just using whatever stitch I feel like. :)

I just had a vision of the future in which you made this smock and said, "it wasn't really that hard!"

I have always loved embroidery. Just because for 33 cents, you can do so much. :) I think you did a great job.
Have fun!

How did you get the pattern onto the fabric? I love this sampler pattern.

So far so great! Be sure and remember to show us when it is finished. Did you also get instructions on which stitches to use and how to do them? I recently did a simple embroidery (maybe I'll post it) and it really was a lot of fun.

Blessings, Debbie

Debbie~ I did look up the different stitches, but I don't know if I'm supposed to use certain ones at certain times. I figure it's my embroidery and I'll just do it how I like it. Not being one to follow orders... ;)

That looks good so far. I tried to embroider Roman's name on his Disneyland shirt and couldn't even take a picture of it because it looked so bad. But dang it. He wore it anyway because it took almost 2 hours. So let me know if you find any other helpful hints on embroidery. It just sounds so romantic and wife-y.
