Merry Early Christmas

Looky what came today!!! This is my sexy new toy!
I have been wanting a new camera for awhile to take decent pictures of my food and knits. The one I was using was an old hand-me down from my sister that, while I appreciated for the fact that she gave it to me, just wasn't cuttin' it.
So I researched. And I lusted. And I price checked. And I lusted some more. And I resigned myself to waiting because... Well because we have other things to pay for and I'm a big girl who can be patient (sort of). I figured I would save up the money over time via selling knits and monetary gifts, etc.
Then we had the company Christmas party last Saturday for Ben's work. They usually give out a jacket and a little gift of grocery gift cards. Which I always appreciate. But this year, the envelope also contained an unexpected Christmas bonus.
The next day I was updating our check register and Ben says "So, would that bonus cover your camera?" I tell him yes, but it's ok I can wait. He pretty much told me there was no reason to wait, and that since it makes videos as well that he would use it too so I really should order it and it's OK just go ahead. Well, he didn't have to twist my arm too much to get me to do it.
So I ordered it Sunday, and it came today and oh my sweet sheepy goodness do I love this camera.
It's a Nikon D3100 and if you click that link you'll get all the specs. It's 14.2 megapixels and came with an 18-55mm lens. I'm hoping eventually to get a macro lens as well, because I'm in love with macro photography.
And it takes beautiful pictures! I just started shooting as soon as the battery was charged, so I haven't learned the ins and outs completely yet. But I got a few shots. Like this:
And this
And this:
And these as well:
Look at how crisp they are! (They'd be even crisper if I had good lighting, but it's a beautifully dreary and rainy day that's getting darker as I type, so you get what you get.)
I'm so excited to have this before Christmas because now I can take good pictures of our Christmas morning and all the festivities going on this holiday!
And thank you very much to my Ben, for my early Christmas present. You're the best, and I love you.
Merry Christmas,
Meg

I love how you describe it as "I lusted." Such honesty is hard to find.
It seems like there are a million blogs and sites that do nothing but "tutorialize" people on the ins and outs of their expensive DSLRs. I was gonna link some, but then I realized I don't have any of them bookmarked.
I must play with this camera. I must do it nine times.
Your photographs already look fantabulous, and this is just you tinkering around with it (approximately) 20 minutes after you turned it on. Impressive. Most impressive.
I love how very crisp they are and how clear. OH my gosh I can see why you lusted after it. So awesome! I can't wait to see it tomorrow.
Oh my, after looking at your pictures I wish I could get one. Best of luck with it.
Just last night as I was closing the curtains and slipping into bed my husband said to me... "I was wondering about getting a camera for you for Christmas". I stopped dead in my tracks. Really? One with a good lense? To take close-ups, and zoom-ins? Yes... all those things.
Well, I don't know if I'll get one or not, but your post warmed my heart. Such a husband you have! Muscled torso AND a big heart! You cashed in, Meg... bless him!
Your pictures are already so lovely. Crisp was the perfect word. I LOVE the Santa and the presents on the table, and the ornaments. I can't wait to see more!
